Intermediate DBA, Oracle Emphasis

Right now RAD is looking for an intermediate-level DBA to join our engineering team. This position offers a unique career opportunity for someone who can anchor a production Oracle operation with a modest-sized database, but would also enjoy challenges with other database products which we have in place.

 

Essential Functions

  • Support Oracle databases and tools in a high availability environment including RAC, DataGuard, RMAN, Director and GRID Control
  • Technical design, development and proactive maintenance of databases to ensure accessibility, risk mitigation, security and integrity of applications
  • Installing, upgrading, patching database and related utility packages
  • Assist software development teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Implement, maintain and test database backup and recovery processes
  • Monitor performance, utilization, DB parameters and tune databases as required

Other Responsibilities

  • Architecting database schema changes to support new functionality, implementing with minimal downtime
  • Hardware requirements and storage capacity planning for production servers for scalable database growth
  • Automation of routine database maintenance tasks and alerts
  • Work with application programmers to ensure implementation of best practices and use of new features
  • Implementing database migrations from one server to another
  • Support for UNIX shell scripts to manage and monitor database systems
  • Problem analysis involving interactions and dependencies between the UNIX OS and database

Requirements

  • 5 years as a production DBA in a highly available environment
  • At least 3 years of Oracle 9i/10g database experience in a 24x7 highly available environment utilizing RAC, DataGuard and RMAN
  • Proven track record of executing on projects as well as regular maintenance duties

Bonus Skills & Experience

  • Experience with MySQL, Sybase and other production database systems
  • Oracle Portal products such as WebCache, Portal and OID servers
  • Advanced PL/SQL and shellscripting
  • SQL performance concepts and tuning tools (TKPROF, STATSPACK, EXPLAIN, EOM)
  • Solaris

Education

  • B.S. Computer Science or equivalent exchange for experience
  • Oracle certification a plus
